The Incomplete Weekenders: Part 2 (The Wet Market and the Forest Park)

*Continued…

Really fresh fruits and vegetables can be a little bit difficult to find in a busy, condensed place like Kota Damansara. Big shopping malls like Giant and Carrefour KD do sell varieties of them in big, spacious racks. But unfortunately, the fruits and veges are not as fresh as what was expected by a picky consumer. There are other options…like the small market shops at Dataran Sunway, plus other exclusive supermarkets at IPC (Ikano) and 1Utama. But if you’re into convenient, money-saving shopping trips, then a wet market is the place you really wanna go to.

As wifey has to work on Sunday that day, Irtiza and I went to one at Uptown Kota Damansara to buy some greens. Some people refer the place as Uptown D’Kota, whereas some use Kompleks Muhibbah (which is the actual venue for that Sunday market). It’s not a hard place to find; you use the Persiaran Surian from Ikano to travel towards the direction to the Sg Buloh exit and pass all the big landmarks like the Sunway Giza, SEGi University College and Sri KDU until you see the Kompleks Muhibbah, Sect 3 signage on the left side of the main road.

Irtiza is pretty much used to the place by now, but it’s very rare for me to bring him to shop along without wifey around due to unknown risks. But if you think of it, the wet market is actually a good place for a child to learn about things interactively with their senses. You just need to be EXTRA careful when shopping while doing child monitoring at the same time. If you think that you can be easily distracted while shopping, then don’t.

Anyway, Irtiza was obedient enough not to let go his hand off mine, while walking around to buy things from my shopper’s list that day. So, it was not much of a struggle, until he got distracted by a bunch of red onions.

"Onions?"

Both of us got a sample of the sold oranges...the fruits were surprisingly nice and sweet!

The shopping tasks were brief, and we managed to buy everything that we need in just ½ hour. It felt too early to get back home, so we went to the Kota Damansara Community Forest Park.

Irtiza....mesmerized...

Even though my wife and I have lived in Kota Damansara since April 2007, that day was the first visit to the forest park. After a few turns and false exits, I managed to find the place. For first time visitors, what you need to know is that the place is at Section 10, KD with De Rozelle condo and a secondary school just nearby the main viewing area of the forest park.

When we reached there, we were pretty much in awe. The place was so green, old and preserved that I still feel shocked upon discovering this kind of widespread greenery in a busy and congested Petaling Jaya.

More greens...

....*speechless...

The time was almost 10am while Irtiza and I were quietly observing the untouched flora, yet the air was still cool and fresh…not at all hot and damp. We could find people utilizing the place as a place to jog, to fish, cycle, and relax. I immediately fell in love with the place…and I think Irtiza love the place too.

Fishing (Those fishes are clever....couldn't see them catching any)

"Mana ikan?"

There were signs around the place. One made it clear that the forest is off limits without permission. Another told visitors not to feed the monkeys (we couldn’t find any throughout our walk there). Irtiza rode my back a lot while exploring the other sides of the park. There was a herbal park under construction, and a small bridge to get into the forest for those who wanted to do some forest-trekking. I wasn’t prepared for the latter, plus Irtiza was with me during that time (really worried about his safety…you never know what you may find in there)….so, the forest-trekking thing has to wait for now.

We left the place for home after that, and kept talking about both places the whole day. I think Irtiza learned a lot that day…and hopefully he’ll learn more through more visits in the near future…Irtiza’s mum included :)

Bonus (Enjoy the video) :)
