New Year: A lil bit of Sogo & Puteri Restaurant

Lose weight. Better personality. Buy things. You may have seen these wishes for the New Year on FB a few days ago. I think mine was ‘World peace’ (*adjusting my country-labeled sash and high heels).

While I applauded the positive tones and the enthusiasms in greeting the New Year, it feels ironic that a lot of people woke up late and groggy a day after. I guess that was why the journey to Sogo was such a breeze last 1st January.

My very own pain-inflicting healthy breakfasy before the journey to Sogo

Wifey, Irtiza and I left home at 10am-ish that day….which was quite a late journey to Jln TAR area. Regular visitors would know that you really have to reach the area as early as possible in order to get empty car parks. In my case, an alternative was the Semua House’s multi-storey car park. But after the RM8 ticket for (*gasp) less than an hour’s stay two Fridays ago, arriving to Jln TAR area by 9am+ was the absolute solution.

So, we managed to park the car at B2 by 1030am+. Our first stop was the Customer Service Centre at the 7th Floor. It was a déjà vu of the last Ramadhan; with the shopping, and the lethargy. Why the lethargy? Two reasons…’early jogging’ and ‘healthy breakfast’.

Ok…ok…perhaps my resolution has nothing to do with ‘world peace’…

Counter-agents...get it?

Anyway, we went to the children, men and women departments for our shopping. A lot of people were seen everywhere; a normal scenario in Sogo, regardless of festivity celebrations or not. It seems that in Sogo, everyday is a sale day. It is a magical, enchanted place where being a spendthrift seems necessary and as important as life-and-death matters.

Crazy discounts

One of Irtiza's donut-eating technique

Hey...there's a clown / stranger with balloons!

I do love the selections of clothes….and mind you, a lot of them bear good and branded labels (John Master, Polo, Alain Delon…to name a few)….and they come with good discounts. I saw a displayed section of good Polo executive pants that were sold less than RM60 (After 50%+ discount), and the John Master’s ones were around RM79.90. Didn’t catch much on the price tags for the women and children clothing that day…wifey was in charge of that (while I waited at the corner, and observed Irtiza’s 101 ways of eating Dunkin Donuts). But, based from previous observations, the sale for both departments was usually big in bargains.

Shoppers looking like ants from above

After the shopping routine, we felt hungry. As the foodcourt was probably overcrowded during that time (plus we were expecting a delivery at home), we observed other options.

Eating healthily was a challenge that day. Evil symbols were displayed everywhere. One of them was the big, yellow alphabet…its real meaning was susceptible to people’s interpretation (Malignant? Maniacal? Massacre?). The other was the white grandpa’s head that bore likeness to a chicken drumstick (a subliminal message on cannibalism). So, in the end, we left Sogo, and dropped by at the Puteri Restaurant, Jln Dato’ Sulaiman, TTDI.

Local delicacies

They also sell pure honey and cookies

It was my first visit to the restaurant. I actually hoped to see a wide selection of local delicacies there (after the visit to the branch at Brickfields, and the TV3’s Nona showcase of the Sg. Penchala branch). Instead, the variety of food was a little bit limited (I was assuming that they anticipate fewer customers for the day).
As we were rushing to get back home, we had everything as takeaway. I took some beef curry, a piece of fried chicken (for Irtiza), one fried spicy Tilapia, some fresh ‘ulam’ (veges), and 3 boxes of rice. Everything costed RM19.

Food for the body and soul

We got back afterwards and had our late lunch. The food was ok….it wasn’t five star, but it was quite a nice, simple meal. The beef was fragrant and an easy chew, and the fish was crispy on the outside, and soft inside. The rest of the food was ok too.

We spent the remainder of the day doing chores, and enjoy each other’s company in front of the TV. So, that’s how we spent the New Year. It was not dramatic and adventurous, nor it involves being in different countries, but being with your very own family for the holiday made it as special as it can be :).

Ps: / The celebration for the next New Year will involve a lot of blood, explosions and death-defying acts…unless wifey wanted to go shopping that day….errr..
