Jovian Fishing @ First Lady, Jln TAR

Who is Jovian? Truthfully speaking, got to know the real him several days prior to this blog entry. Before that, Jovian to me was a she, a non-Malaysian, and a person with a cool name that could have originated from Tolkien’s middle earth.

I was in a blur when wifey wanted to go to the First Lady at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. It was the 22nd July. We went there for the revealing of the 2nd batch of Jovian Mandagie RTW (Ready to Wear) Collection. So, that day, we left home early (with Irtiza still in his pyjamas).

When we arrived at 9am, there was already a gath of almost 20 Jovian enthusiasts. A gathering like this was not a new thing to me (a post-Harry Potter book launches, Crocs warehouse / clearance sales and etc. effect). So, both of us were pretty much conditioned to this kind of situation. The next step would be the Olympics (Shoppers category).

A mass of 20

Wifey and Irtiza

Irtiza and I went to the nearby KFC to kill time (It was almost 930am). The restaurant was due to open by 10am. So we went back to the shop. The crowd was gone, and the shop was already open. When we peeked inside, what we saw was a real ‘massacre’. I likened the scene to the one with a horde of zombies, trying to get fresh meat. In this case, it was a group of fanatic shoppers that was compressed together while struggling to get the dresses from the racks.

Wifey was invisible from within the group when I tried to look for her from afar. While searching for her, I couldn’t help but smile to see the whole ordeal. As the Jovian Collection area was a little bit raised from the rest of the shop, it felt like watching a staging of a theatre performance (with way fewer dialogues and more special effects). Then, when the scene got monotonous, I got bored. Both Irtiza and I went to KFC for his breakfast.

At KFC, I was not sure whether Irtiza was really hungry for food, or craving for free Spiderman toys. I felt guilt-ridden for being there (It was the 2nd Ramadhan). I was hoping that I could come off as a Chinese, but the disguise was foiled when Irtiza started shouting with excitement in Malay (with a tinge of Kedahan accent in his Rs).

Should have called this a 'Happy Meal'

We came back to the shop and did more waiting. Wifey appeared from the bunch with a dress; queuing in front of the dressing room. There were some empty racks and naked mannequins; the aftermath of the massacre.

Wifey showed me her dress. It was nice...not that bad at all; a light blue dress with dark blue patterns and some ornamental designs at the left chest / shoulder. From what I can see, a lot of the remaining clothes have the similar ornamental designs. The only differences were the dress patterns and colour combinations. It was unfortunate that I didn’t manage to see Jovian’s brand new collections (I was told by wifey that a group of friends with hording strategies managed to grab a whole lot of them dresses during the first grab). Then, finally, after 2 ½ hours later since our arrival, wifey made the purchase. We went home after that.

There was a revealing of Jovian’s 3rd batch last Sunday. We anticipated a bigger crowd this time, as the unveiling was greater publicised this time (plus it’s already salary day for most Malaysians). We were right; a blog narrated with pics and revealed a bigger crowd that started grouping as early as 8am+. We left home anyway with the intention to go to Jln TAR to buy Baju Melayu for Raya. But wifey got curious, and we dropped by to First Lady for awhile. There were same massacre patterns; empty racks and naked mannequins. Wifey almost bought a nice Jovian dress, but unfortunately it was too big. Irtiza still got his dose of KFC (and a new Spiderman toy).

I have to admit that the Jovian Collection was unique in its own style (after visiting his website). There were some that look like a combination of the modern and the traditional, and were vintage in appearance. I can see an influence of the traditional Straits look. Some are new, like the dresses from the 2nd and 3rd batch unveiling.

Anyway, after reaching home (Bought Baju Raya for both Irtiza and I), got to know from wifey that Zalora is also handling the Jovian Collection. As wifey’s eyes sparkled with happiness, what I can say after that was “Next time” :P
